If you relax your leg more- your ball of your foot should just rest in the stirrup and then you should feel like all of your weight is being flexed down, through, and into your heel and out down to the ground. You should post using your leg/calf/knee/thigh- NOT by pushing up with the ball of you foot. Almost think as if you are pushing down through your heel and everything from knee down should not move, use your thighs/butt to post forward- not srtaight up in the saddle. By posting "forward" you meet/"catch up" with the horses movement and it should be smoother when you sit, to then post again. This should help keep your lower leg steadier so your leg overall will be more secure and thusly help hopfully with your stirrup issue.
Hope this helps!! |

| okay....I will try all of that. Also, I notice that if I am on a smaller horse, or in an "anything-but-dressage" saddle, I am much more tempted to use toes more. It also happens when I get tired riding. Is this normal?? Thanks for all the help! I will keep it in mind next time I ride. |

I constantly hear my mom tell her students to spread their toes - keep in mind I DON'T TEACH but it helps the rider to relax their foot and then they aren't balancing like a bird on a branch. She also says to 'breathe with your feet' which I remind myself when I'm tense.
Good luck - you guys look awesome!!! |
